French Football Commentator Hugo Guillemet has dished out some inside scoop on the collapsed deal involving Ghana winger Ernest Nuamah’s move from Olympique Lyon to Fulham.
The deal was set for 20 year old Nuamah to move from the French Ligue 1 side to the English Premier League’s Fulham in the final hours of the main transfer window.
The reported fee was 19 million euros including add-ons with Nuamah completing his medicals earlier on Friday, August 30.
However, the deal fell through at the final juncture and some reports have linked the collapsed deal to Nuamah’s injury that prevented him from being considered for a Black Stars call up for 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger in September.
According to Guillemet via French Football media outlet L’Equipe, the deal was firmly in play until Nuamah decided against signing for Lyon with the French football insider stating that the former FC Nordsjaelland player decided against signing the contract.
L’Equipe also reported that Ernest Nuamah’s management had stated that, “He -Ernest Nuamah- loves Lyon.”
“Everything was wrapped up but Ernest Nuamah decided not to sign at the last minute at Fulham, because he really wants to stay at OL (who had not found a replacement for him). He returns to Lyon” Guillemet said and added that

“Ernest Nuamah blew his transfer, he felt that he was forced and the pen trembled.”
Minutes after Nuamah’s purported deal with Fulham was announced, Olympique Lyon announced the signing of former Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha.
