Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has emphatically pushed back on the idea of resigning from his post in the wake of Ghana’s calamitous 2025 AFCON qualification campaign.
He said this in a post-game interview after Ghana lost 2-1 to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium to close out an abject campaign that had Ghana fail to win a game in six outings.
Ghana failed to qualify to the 2025 AFCON in the process and will miss out on competing in the continental championship for the first time in 20 years.
The Black Stars finished bottom in Group F amassing just three points while losing to Sudan and Angola; Sudan and Angola qualified from the group to compete in next year’s tournament.
Despite overseeing arguably the worst qualification campaign in the Black Stars history, Otto Addo shot down the idea of resigning from his post stating that,
“I’m not a person who can resign. If I had done this, I would never have become a player or even a coach.”
Ghana’s failure to progress to next year’s competition comes on the back of exits at the 2021 and 2024 AFCON group stage respectively.
