Football legend Michael Essien has stated that he’d pick Thomas Partey as the better midfielder in a comparison between the two midfielders.

He said this in an interview with Sporty FM where he was asked to pick who is the better of the Ghanaian midfielders who garnered enormous popularity thanks to their run in the English Premier League.

Essien starred for Chelsea after moving from French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyon; he won multiple EPL titles and the 2012 UEFA Champions League with The Blues.

Partey is in the final year of a year deal with Arsenal after joining The Gunners from Spanish side Atletico Madrid and has two goals and two assists in 21 EPL games thus far in the 2024-2025 season.

“Between myself and Thomas Partey in our primes, I don’t think I would pick myself. I would go for Partey. He is a fantastic midfielder, you know” Essien said.

Essien and Partey have served as Black Stars captains in their run with Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team and the former has turned to coaching after retiring.
