God will not forgive NPP members who exploited my popularity for votes – Asamoah Gyan

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan in a feisty social media rant has opened up about his affiliation with the defeated New Patriotic Party and his subsequent fallout with them in the wake of the 2024 General Election.

Gyan was named a member of the NPP’s manifesto committee for Youth and Sports and was expected to use his leverage to influence the youth in a bid to drive development.

However, things took a dramatic turn after he abruptly announced he was stepping down from the role a few weeks to the elections.

In a tell all Instagram live video that went public on January 2nd 2025 Gyan admits to feeling used and betrayed by the NPP.

All I wanted to do was use my brand to help the youth and I knew I could do great things because even with my own funds I had done a lot.

I knew with state funds I could take things to another level.

That is why I decided to join the NPP.

Not knowing they were using my popularity because the economic situation in the country was tough for the citizens.

They wanted to use my fan base and popularity to attract voters.

That is how I was used and I lost my respect in front of people because of this.

God is not going to forgive anyone who is involved.” he stated
