Minister for Sports and Recreation designate Kofi Adams has hinted that he will spend time helping to develop lesser known and funded sporting disciplines when he is given the approval.
The Buem MP’s nomination came as a surprise to many in Ghana’s Sports circles has set out to dispel the perception, that like most of his predecessors he will spend a bulk of his time and resources on Ghana’s senior male national football team the Black Stars.
“As a sports Minister you are in charge of all Sports and not only responsible for the Black Stars.
Whatever leadership we must offer the various federations to ensure that they succeed I will do so but I know that football is the nation’s love.
Sports is not only football and Sports is not black stars. Sports should go beyond football and football should go beyond Black stars.”
He however admitted that due to the emotional connection the Black Stars have with the Ghanaian populace and its potential to promote the nation globally it will remain a priority.
You don’t take your eye off what the nation loves but you develop all others because everything must be developed holistically.
However Football and the Black Stars is foundational and so we must pay attention to them because when they shine it brings the country glory that rubs off on the other disciplines.” He told GHONE TV in an interview.
