John Dramani Mahama will not hesitate to dismiss underperforming Sports Minister – Dr. Fred Awaah

Spokesperson for the NDC Manifesto on Sports Dr. Fred Awaah, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama would not hesitate to reshuffle ministerial appointments, particularly in the Sports Ministry, during his administration.

His comments come amidst media speculation about potential candidates for the role, with former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye widely considered the frontrunner.

Dr. Awaah assured that the Mahama administration would remain vigilant and take decisive action if challenges arise in the management of the sports sector, prioritizing effective leadership and accountability.

He spoke to Citi Sports in an exclusive interview.

Now, to answer your question, I just reflect back on the youth manifesto launch at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

His Excellency said, and I want to remember his own words, that when he takes power, those who would be privileged to serve under his government, if you don’t do well, he’s not going to be lenient on you.

Are we together? So it’s a true reflection of a man who is committed to giving people opportunities, but also at the back of that opportunity, if you are not capable, you’ll be shown the exit door, especially so when you are corrupt.

So he should tell you that his excellency, John Dramani Mahama is a diligent person and he will not tolerate anything that is inconsistent to the rules and regulations of our country.

Former Member of Parliament for the Odododiodioo constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has emerged as a leading contender for the Minister of Youth and Sports position in a potential John Dramani Mahama administration.

Vanderpuye, known for his strong advocacy on sports-related issues, particularly football, expressed his desire to serve the nation again in this capacity.

The sporting community eagerly awaits President Mahama’s announcement on the next Sports Minister.

In March 2013, Vanderpuye was appointed Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under the Mahama government.

He later served as Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development from 2014 to 2015.

Following a ministerial reshuffle in 2015, he was named Minister of Youth and Sports, succeeding Dr. Mustapha Ahmed.
