“We need someone who knows the terrain and is not overly loud” – Ghana Athletics Vice President on Next Sports Minister

The Vice President of Ghana Athletics, Charles Osei Asibey, has issued a stern warning to the administration of President John Dramani Mahama regarding the appointment of the next Sports Minister.

He emphasized that the role must be filled by someone with a “cool head” to effectively manage the challenges of the position.

According to Osei Asibey, it is crucial for President Mahama to make the right choice, emphasizing that this appointment will be a pivotal first step in resetting sports in the country.

His remarks come in the wake of the successful presidential inauguration held yesterday at the Black Star Square.

He said this in an interview with Citi Sports on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

So the sports minister doesn’t necessarily have to be aggressive.

A gentleman who understands sports, a gentleman who would operate on the window policy, a gentleman who would respect every individual or every stakeholder as far as sports is concerned.

For me, the biggest incentive for Ghanaian tender government is to go for a loud person, somebody who would always be seen bantering or fighting officials, engaging in unnecessary, you know, argument.

If you go back, then you check the likes of the Osafo Marfo, the Afriyie Ankrahs, the Sena Dansuas, and the rest.

These were wonderful sports ministers, very calm, but they got things done.

If this government makes a mistake and brings in anybody who would be seen to be overly loud, the person may not focus on delivering, and it will become an issue.

We need somebody who is a manager, somebody who understands that they read.

Unfortunately, I cannot mention names.

All the names you have mentioned are wonderful personalities, but you never know.

The president will surprise all of us, but we need somebody who would work with federations.

We need somebody who would work with all the stakeholders and deliver results to his excellence.
