“I have been unfairly targeted” – Nyantakyi after second discharge

Former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi says the decision by an Accra High Court to discharge him on 13 February 2025 is testament to the fact that he has been unfairly persecuted.

According to him the Number 12 Documentary which was published in June 2018 by Tiger Eye PI seeking to expose deep rooted corruption and mal practices in Ghanaian football was merely a witch-hunt with no concrete evidence against him.

The decision to discharge him was reached after some complications arose with the potential witnesses put forward by the State.

This was the second time he was being discharged from the trial which commenced in March 2020 where he faced multiple fraud and corruption charges.

He was first discharged in March 2021 after witness complications and multiple adjournments but was re-arraigned a few weeks later in another Accra High Court.

In a letter of gratitude to his legal counsel, friends and family he reflected on the hardships on the past few years.

“The journey over these years has been challenging, but I have drawn strength from the steadfast support of those who believed in me. Despite the prolonged nature of the legal process, I remained confident that justice would prevail. This latest ruling reaffirms my long-standing position that I have been unfairly targeted.

“I deeply appreciate the encouragement, prayers, and loyalty of my family, friends, and well-wishers. Your belief in the principles of justice and fairness has been invaluable. I also acknowledge the dedication and professionalism of my legal team, whose commitment ensured that due process was followed.

The number 12 exposé led to Kwesi Nyantakyi’s resignation as GFA President and also a ban from all football related activities by FIFA.
