Robin van Persie has been confirmed as Feyenoord’s new head coach.

The 41-year-old has left Herenveen to take charge of Feyenoord after an agreement was reached between the two clubs. He has signed a contract until 2027 and will be assisted by Rene Hake, who had been part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff earlier this season at Manchester United.

Van Persie enjoyed two spells at Feyenoord as a player, starting and finishing his career there, scoring 46 goals in 122 appearances. The Dutchman was also an assistant coach at the club under Dick Advocaat and worked with their youth teams before leaving to take charge of Herenveen in May 2024.

“Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is and I am enormously looking forward, together with a strong staff, to working with the player group at 1908 and then in De Kuip, supported by the Legion, playing matches and achieving successes together.

Feyenoord dismissed Brian Priske, who replaced Arne Slot at the start of the season, last week after a run of one win in six league games.

Feyenoord are currently third in the Eredivisie, 11 points behind leaders Ajax, having played a game more. They are also through to the last 16 of the Champions League, having beaten AC Milan 2-1 on aggregate in their playoff.

It is the first time in their history that Feyenoord have reached the round of 16 in the competition, and they will meet Inter in the two-legged tie next month.
