Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club have moved to the summit of the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League standings at the time of writing after beating Young Apostles FC.

The Phobia club beat Apostles 2-0 at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon in the opening game on the resumption of the league.

Competition in Ghana’s premier division was halted following the death of Kumasi Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong when violent clashes erupted at a league game between Kotoko and Nsoatreman.

After several stakeholder meetings were held and Pooley given a befitting burial, the league’s suspension was waived.

In its first outing following the break, Michael Awuah Mensah’s header from a corner kick in the 43rd minute and Hamza Issah’s goal in the 47th minute gave Hearts the win.

Speaking after the game, Young Apostles head coach Abdul Rashim Bashiru Tijani, stated that, “they-Hearts of Oak-deserved the three points”.
