Following his unopposed election to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee on March 12, 2025, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku spoke about the significant responsibility he now carries.
In an interview with Sporty FM, Okraku expressed gratitude to his predecessor, Kwesi Nyantakyi, for his support during the process.
He remarked, “I’m very grateful to Kwesi Nyantakyi for his support, for his message two days ago, and it only tells me that I have big shoes to fill.”
Okraku acknowledged the legacy of Nyantakyi, who had previously served on the CAF Executive Committee and left a notable mark on African football governance.
Okraku, who secured a four-year term from 2025 to 2029, emphasized his commitment to living up to the expectations set by those before him, including Nyantakyi and other prominent Ghanaians like Ohene Djan.
He added, “It’s my singular commitment to work my way in that perspective and ensure that I serve Africa and Ghana to the best of my ability.”
His election marks him as the sixth Ghanaian to join this influential 24-member committee, a role he sees as an opportunity to amplify Ghana’s voice in African football affairs. This story reflects Okraku’s recognition of the challenge ahead and his determination to make a meaningful impact on the continental stage.
