Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has praised the immense popularity of the English Premier League in Ghana while calling for the same level of passion shown by Ghanaians to the competition to be replicated in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

He made this call while speaking at Guinness Ghana’s “EPL Trophy in Ghana” event that had former Black Stars EPL players John Paintsil and John Mensah present to welcome the EPL Trophy to Ghana.

Speaking at the event, the newly minted Director-General of the NSA, described the EPL as the best league in the world but highlighted the need for Ghana’s top flight to learn from the competition.

“The EPL is the best, the numbers don’t lie and I know if you try to make a comparison with our own domestic league unfortunately we don’t come near. For us, it’s about learning to close the gap; if it will take five years or ten years or whenever, as long as we able to see to see how great the EPL is and hope that the fans in Manchester United, Chelsea, West Ham, Liverpool also can translate that passion to Kotoko, Hearts, Olympics.”
