GPL: Legon Cities sack head coach Yaw Acheampong

Legon Cities Football Club have parted ways with head coach Yaw Acheampong Citi Sports gathers in the lead up to the club’s clash against Bechem United in Bechem.

The split comes as Legon Cities endure a horrid run in the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League with the club ranked 17th in the 18 team league standings.

Acheampong was appointed in January 2025 after getting dismissed from his role as head coach at Aduana Stars. The former Black Stars player has made similar head coaching stops at GPL clubs Elmina Sharks, Eleven Wonders and AshantiGold.

Legon Cities last win in the GPL in the 2024-2025 campaign with the exception of forfeited win over the defunct Nsoatreman FC was recorded on March 16 via a 2-1 win over Berekum Chelsea.

The club has since gone a seven game winless run that includes losses to Accra Lions, Basake Holy Stars, Karela United and Samartex.

Legon Cities have 25 points and are four points off 16th ranked Karela United in the standings.
