Secretary General of the Ghana Basketball Federation (GBBF), Rafiq Mohammed Arthur, is adamant that subsequent editions of the 3×3 Hoop Rave Basketball Championship won’t be an invitational one but rather a competition that teams compete in based on merit.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports ahead of the aforementioned competition that runs from Thursday, April 10 to Saturday, April 12 at the Trust Sports Emporium in Bukoum.

42 Senior High Schools have been invited to compete in the tournament with 18 in the Girls Division and 24 in the Boys Division. The top schools in each group and two of the best second placed schools progress to the quarterfinals.

After shedding light on the catalyst behind the organization of the tournament, the GBBF Secretary General disclosed that future editions of the competition would have merit based placement. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Team Ghana won Silver in Men’s 3×3 Basketball at the 13th African Games

“Because it is the first one, we had to do it an invitational one because there has been no 3×3 competition for senior high schools in Ghana so there is no seeding or merit for any of the schools so we just decided that…let’s see which schools can represent the country properly in this 3×3 competition.”

“In our subsequent editions, we are going to have our regional qualifiers, which would climax at the national so for next year, we are not inviting [any school to compete], it’s going to be based on merit.”
