The Ghana Federation of American Football (GFAF) has successfully concluded its 10-day National Coaching Clinic 2025 at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium on Friday, May 23, 2025.
The clinic, which began on Monday, May 12, and ended on 23rd May 2025, brought together 16 regional Physical Education Coordinators from across the country for intensive training in flag football rules, skill development, non-contact tactics, and game strategies.
The participants benefited from the basic introduction of the game, developmental initiatives, tactical game defence and offence, among other vital topics, aimed at enhancing the advancement of the sport.
In an interview with the media, President Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah emphasised the Federation’s long-term vision :
You know, we want to be able to do things right. We don’t just want to start an organisation or a federation.
We want to do things the right way, in a way that the country can benefit, the youth can benefit, the coaches can benefit, and the school systems can benefit.
So we’re still in this step-by-step phase, the day-by-day stage. These coaches have done a great job over the 10 days. They’ll go back to their regions and pass on what they’ve learned.
Mr. Michael Ntow Ayerh, National Director of Physical Education and Sports at GES, expressed his support for the initiative :
“this clinic is timely and important. It aligns perfectly with our broader goal of introducing diverse sporting opportunities to students across the country.
We’re proud to support the Federation in this groundbreaking journey.”
One of the participants, Ben Blay-Essien from the Ashanti Region, commended the organisers and the instructors for their enthusiasm and effort on and off the pitch.
“The energy and passion these instructors brought to the field every day was outstanding, and we’ve picked up the concepts quickly and are more than ready to take flag football back to their regions.”
The GFAF, with support from top US-based coaches and players, plans to continue its regional engagement with more clinics and competitions as part of its mission to develop American football (Flag football), at the grassroots level across Ghana.
Participants were awarded certificates, balls, and flags for developmental use.
The closing ceremony was graced by notable figures, including GFAF President Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, National Director of Physical Education at GES, Michael Ntow, GFAF Vice President Mohammed Osman Nkosi, President of the Uganda Federation of American Football, Steven George Okeng, and all the instructors who facilitated the clinic.
As part of the school’s developmental plans, two schools from each of the basic and senior high levels across each region have been selected to benefit from the nationwide exercise. They include:
