Boston Celtics fans were dealt a heavy blow as their star player, Jayson Tatum, underwent surgery on Tuesday for a ruptured right Achilles tendon—a serious injury that casts shadows over his immediate future in the NBA and the hopes of Celtics loyalists.

The incident that sent shivers through the TD Garden unfolded during Monday’s clash against the New York Knicks. In a heart-stopping moment during the final quarter, Tatum collapsed after an awkward landing and had to be wheeled off the court, leaving the team and fans stunned. The game ended in a 121-113 loss for the Celtics, but it was Tatum’s injury that truly rocked the night.

While the surgery was confirmed as successful, the Celtics have yet to announce an expected return date for their All-Star forward. As he embarks on the challenging path to recovery, the Celtics face the daunting task of continuing through the playoffs without their pivotal player.

Boston currently lags behind 3-1 in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Knicks, with the decisive Game 5 looming at TD Garden. Jayson Tatum has been a linchpin for the Celtics this postseason, boasting an impressive average of 28.1 points per game.

Acknowledging the magnitude of Tatum’s loss, Kristaps Porzingis of the Knicks reflected, “We all understood what it could be. It’s a tough truth to accept, but life goes on, and we have to move forward.”
