Football legend Stephen Appiah is very confident that Ghana will qualify to the 2026 FIFA World Cup that is to be held in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking in an aside in an exclusive interview on the TotalEnergies Auto Show on Citi FM, the legendary Ghanaian midfielder who doubles as a member of the Black Stars Management Committee, based his confidence in Ghana’s qualification chances on the Black Stars’ recent outings in the qualifiers.

Ghana spanked Chad 5-0 and added a 3-0 win over Madagascar in the follow up qualification game while picking up a 4-0 win and a 2-1 loss in the Unity Cup to Trinidad and Tobago and Nigeria respectively.

Thanks to the wins over Chad and Madagascar, Ghana leads Group I standings with 15 points, three points ahead of second ranked Comoros with four games remaining in the qualifiers and Appiah is sure Ghana will make it to the World Cup for the fifth time.

Stephen Appiah

“For what I saw against Chad and Madagascar and the friendlies, the Unity Cup that we played in the UK against Nigeria and Trinidad, it has given me a lot of hope because the new players who came showed themselves [well]. So yeah I am very convinced that we still have four games to play but when you do the calculations, nothing tells me that we are not going to qualify” Appiah said.
