Nations Football Club CEO Kennedy Boakye-Ansah has stated that the club doesn’t have a bad relationship with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) even in the face of the fallout from Nations’ Ghana Premier League game against Basake Holy Stars.

Nations abandoned its penultimate league tie against Holy Stars in the 2024-2025 season after two penalties were awarded to Basake sparking multiple melees in the first half.

The GFA punished the Abrankese based team by deducting three points from the club’s point tally and ruled that the club had forfeited the game against Basake from the contest leading to Nations finishing fifth in the standings.

Nations released a statement stating the reasons behind the club abandoning the game and in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Boakye-Ansah clarified that the club has a good relationship with the GFA regardless of what happened between the two bodies in the latter stages of the immediate past campaign stating,

“We do not have any ill relationship with the GFA; we know football is governed by rules and the issues that happened in Basake, we actually saw the need to boycott the game…we felt that human lives needed to be preserved especially when Pooley’s issue was very fresh in our minds.”

“We were punished…but we have moved on, we do not have to cry over spilt milk. We do not have any bad relationship with the GFA, we are part of the Association and we will continue to abide by the rules governing the game.”

Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong

Popular Kumasi Asante Kotoko fan Francis “Nana Pooley” Frimpong was stabbed during a Kotoko league game against Nsoatreman and died from the incident leading to the suspension of the league for multiple weeks.

Kennedy Boakye-Ansah previously served as Nations FC Brands Manager.
