The Ghana Tennis Federation, in collaboration with New York Square LLC, has awarded promising Ghanaian junior tennis standout Sisu-Makena Tomegah an elite training scholarship at Chicago’s XS Tennis Academy to support her path toward becoming a professional athlete.
Tomegah’s rise has been nothing short of impressive. She clinched the Sydney Katz Junior Open Under-16 girls title, pulling off a dramatic comeback to beat top-seeded Tracy Ampah 4–6, 6–3, 10–6 in a super tie-break showdown. Her determination and composure marked her as one of Ghana’s most exciting young talents.
More recently, Tomegah added a historic achievement to her résumé by winning the ITF World Tour Juniors event in Accra, becoming the first Ghanaian female to do so.

Battling through a tough three-set match, she defeated Nigeria’s Ohunene Comfort Yakubu 6–2, 6–7(4), 6–2 before a raucous home crowd.
With the backing of the Ghana Tennis Federation and this new scholarship opportunity, Tomegah’s potential can flourish on the global stage.
“This means a lot to me, I would like to thank God for this opportunity first of all and I would like to thank everyone who is involved in this organization to be able to recognize this for me as a talent and send me on this journey, this means a lot to me.
Actually, I feel like this is a big opportunity that I have to really hold on to” she said
The scholarship will give her access to world-class coaching, training facilities, and competition, paving the way for future international success.
The president of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie, shed light on what this brings to the other disciplines in the country.
“This is exactly what the athlete needs. A door is open for a her that she needs to take advantage of because it’s a top class facility that trains top class athletes.
So once she does well, she opens other doors. This is not the end, it’s the beginning. it opens other doors. It’s not only going to open other doors for other athletes in tennis, it also puts Ghana’s name somewhere” He added
The scholarship offers Sisu a one-year stay in the U.S with her mother as she trains to become the next Tennis star.
