West Ham United, the club of defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, have confirmed that the England-born player has accepted an invitation from the Democratic Republic of Congo Federation to play international football for the African nation.

Wan-Bissaka is part of the team that will play against South Sudan and Senegal on September 5 and 9 respectively in Group B games. He joins the likes of Axel Tuanzebe, Arthur Masuaku and Yoane Wissa in the DR Congo squad.

DR Congo lead the group with 13 points, a point ahead of second and third ranked Senegal and Sudan who have picked up 12 points apiece, ahead of the pair of matchups.

The soon to be 28 year old Wan-Bissaka was born in England and represented the nation at the junior level but missed out on representing England at the senior level. Multiple invitations from the African nation were reportedly turned down by Wan-Bissaka in previous years.

Wan-Bissaka moved to West Ham ahead of the 2024-2025 season after a five year run with Manchester United and has gone to make 38 games in all competitions at the time of writing.
