Ghana’s 12 & Under Boys Team clinches Spot at 2025 African Junior Championship after Zone Victory

Ghana’s rising tennis stars have earned their ticket to the continental stage.

After a thrilling showdown at the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) West Africa Zone 12&Under African Junior Championship (Team) Tournament, held in Accra from September 15–19, the Ghanaian boys’ team emerged victorious—securing qualification for the 2025 African Junior Championship.

Hosted at the Goldcoast (Ghana) Tennis Club in Adabraka, the regional tournament brought together top junior teams from Benin, Nigeria, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Ghana, showcasing the future of African tennis in a spirited week of competition.

🎾 Final Day Drama – Boys’ Team Deciding Tie: Ghana vs Benin

  • Ivan (BEN) def. Jefter Dowouna (GH): 6-2, 6-2
  • Maxwell Antwi (GH) def. Amge (BEN): 6-1, 6-3
  • Dowouna/Antwi (GH) def. Ivan/Amge (BEN): 6-4, 6-3

Ghana sealed the tie 2-1, clinching the boys’ team title and continental qualification.

🎾 Girls’ Team Final: Ghana vs Nigeria

Despite a valiant effort, Ghana’s girls fell to a dominant Nigerian side:

  • Atilota Mofifunowa (NGR) def. Grace Tetteh (GH): 6-1, 6-0
  • Opuene Karina (NGR) def. Emmanuella Williams (GH): 6-3, 6-0
  • Karina/Rasaki Mabubat (NGR) def. Tetteh/Williams (GH): 6-1, 6-3

Nigeria won the tie 3-0, taking the girls’ team crown.

The Ghana Tennis Federation celebrates this milestone as a testament to the nation’s growing investment in junior development and talent pathways.

With the African Junior Championship on the horizon, Ghana’s young players are poised to represent the region with pride and ambition, as well as defend the trophy the nation won in 2024 at the AJC in Mozambique.
