Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has rubbished talk of his ill-timed decision to release the budget for the Black Stars mere days to the national team’s engagement in the latest round of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Minister released the budget that had several cuts on expenditure across including the scrapping of winning bonuses for members of the Black Stars Management Committee and a $5000 allocation to fuel the Black Stars bus. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

This happened two days before Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Chad with the latter scoring a late equalizer in a poor display from the Black Stars leading many including former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Sannie Daara, to slam the Minister’s decision. In an exclusive interview on the Citi Breakfast Show, Kofi Adams said that he made indications of the budget cuts several months before the action was taken.

“I had already indicated in March…that for the next World Cup games, the budget would be made public before the match. So, everyone knew this was going to happen. The issue of timing doesn’t sit in there; also, the players didn’t suffer any reduction. If I did anything, I rather enhanced their morale” Kofi Adams said.

Ghana beat Mali 1-0 in the subsequent World Cup qualifier to stay on top of Group I with 19 points and in pole position to qualify to next year’s World Cup.
