Medeama Sporting Club head coach Ibrahim Tanko has praised the efforts of his team following a 2-0 win over Young Apostles.

The Mauve and Yellow clinched the win at Wenchi to open their campaign in the 2025-2026 Ghana Premier League season.

Speaking in a post-game interview with the club’s media, Ibrahim Tanko described the contest as “50-50” but added that a strong pre-season prepared his team for the win stating,

“I think we did what is most important. We had a very good preseason…definitely this performance here is not by mistake, it’s what we worked for. I hope that it will continue” Tanko said.

Medeama finished eighth in the 2024-2025 league standings after picking up 15 wins, five draws and 14 losses. The Tarkwa-based club was the only outfit that registered a two goal difference in the opening round of the new season.

Ibrahim Tanko’s team was one of six teams to score a win in the first round of the new season; the likes of Karela United, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and defending league champions Bibiani Gold Stars did same.
