Bibiani Gold Stars head coach Stephen Frimpong Manso says the very physical nature witnessed in his team’s contest against Bechem United was to be expected considering all teams are fresh in the opening week of a new season.
Gold Stars beat Bechem United 2-1 at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani to open its campaign in the 2025-2026 Ghana Premier League season.
The defending league champions scored its first win of the new season ahead of a pivotal week where they take on Algeria side JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League on Saturday, September 20 at 15:00 GMT but Frimpong Manso wasn’t too bothered about the physical nature of play in the win over Bechem since he expected it.
“It was a difficult game. Now, devoid of injury…they [the teams] all have energy and they want to use it so it’s [very physical play] normal.”

“The situation we witnessed [in the game] was a very good reflection of normally first games” Frimpong Manso said.

Gold Stars will make their CAF Champions League debut this weekend.
