President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has praised the West African nation’s Men’s Football Team for delivering on their promise by producing an outstanding win in its latest 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Senegal trailed 2-0 after conceding goals from Cedric Bakambu and Yoane Wissa but mounted a brilliant comeback to earn a 3-2 win over DR Congo.
Pape Gueye, Nicolas Jackson and Pape Sarr scored in the stunning win that took place in front of the packed out 80,000 Stade des Matrys in Kinshasa.
Beating Congo moved Senegal to the summit of Group B with 18 points from eight games, two points above second ranked DR Congo. Ghana head coach James Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan suffered a surprising 1-0 loss to Togo.
Writing on his official X page, President Faye was happy with the win and called on the team to complete the qualifiers and secure its spot at the 2026 World Cup.

“They promised us this morning, and they did it! With courage and discipline, our Lions went to secure a precious victory in Congo, making an entire nation proud” a section of the statement read.
