Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has called for his team to do a better job defending throw-ins after seeing the Reds lose to Crystal Palace off a throw-in attempt.
The defending English Premier League champions lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park with Eddie Nketiah scoring the winner in the 97th minute.
The loss is Liverpool’s first in the 2025-2026 season and ends an unbeaten run of seven games for Slot’s team. Ismaila Sarr and Federico Chiesa had scored earlier in the game.
“If you want to compete you need a very positive balance with set pieces and even more in this league. It was one of our biggest strengths last season, now we have conceded two against Newcastle and two here. But this league is more and more and more about set pieces.”

“It is never ideal when you concede in extra time of extra time…but we have to defend the throw-in better” Slot said to Sky Sports after the game.

Palace move up to second place in the league with 12 points while Liverpool maintain first place in the standings with 15 points from six games.
