Francis Amuzu, a 26 year old winger for Brazilian Serie A side Gremio, has voiced his wish to represent Ghana at the senior level.

Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars, recently qualified to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and several players with dual nationalities of Ghanaian descent have been heavily linked to the team to potentially feature in the squad that will compete in next year’s World Cup.

Amuzu, who has represented Belgium at the youth level, reportedly turned down multiple chances to play for Ghana when approached by football officials but is singing apparently a different tune now.

In an interview with GZH, Amuzu, who has played 24 games for Gremio and registered two goals and two assists, stated that,

“To be honest, at the moment my heart is really with Ghana. If Ghana comes, for sure I will go and I hope they can call me. I was born in Ghana so I’m happy that they qualified to the World Cup.”

Born in Ghana to former Ghana Under 20 player Theophilus Amuzu, Francis, grew up in Belgium from age 2 and represented Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Anderlecht 205 times and scored 25 goals.

Amuzu has stated that he never disrespected Ghana while he was courted to represent the West Africa nation. However, Amuzu was quoted by Het Nieuwsblad a Flemish Newspaper in 2022, saying, “They call my agent everyday but I keep the decision -to represent Ghana- off“.
