Kevin Durant’s first official outing with his new team, the Houston Rockets, ended in a loss in the opening game of the 2025-2026 NBA season.

Durant joined the Rockets from the Phoenix Suns prior to this season and recently signed a two year, $90 million contract with the team but his debut ended in a thrilling 125-124 double overtime loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durant, who spent nine years with OKC, registered 23 points, three assists and nine rebounds in 47 minutes in the loss.

Reigning NBA champions, OKC, were presented with their championship rings for winning the 2024-2025 NBA title prior to the game.

After the nail biting loss, Durant blamed himself for his role in the one point loss including highlighting his missed free throws.

“I missed the free throws, and I fouled somebody at the end. I think those two plays are the reason we lost. Fouled Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander], put them up one.”

“I’ve got to stay down, be more disciplined [with] those opportunities to get a stop to seal the game” Durant said to ESPN.
