Head coach of Nigeria’s National Men’s Football Team, Eric Chelle, has tagged Victor Osimhen as the best striker in the world.
He did so after witnessing the Galatasaray forward score three times in Nigeria’s desperately needed 4-0 win over Benin in the African qualifiers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final round of games.
Osimhen scored in the third, 27th and 51st minute respectively to put Nigeria on the path to qualification before Frank Onyeka’s crucial goal to give the Super Eagles its fourth goal sealed Nigeria’s place in the four nation mini tournament playoff in Morocco next month.
Nigeria needed to beat Benin and hope for South Africa to lose to Rwanda to top Group C and qualify automatically to next year’s World Cup but the Bafana Bafana easily handled Rwanda to score a 3-0 win.
Speaking after the win, Chelle was impressed with the output of the former Napoli striker who is aiming to play at the World Cup for the first time.

“I am very happy for my players, especially the best striker in the world, Victor [Osimhen]. Now we go to Morocco, it’s going to be very difficult. This is the start and I am proud of everyone and even the fans because they pushed us” Chelle said.
