Argentine superstar Lionel Messi will get the chance to add to his enormous trophy collection when his Inter Miami side take on the Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS (Major League Soccer) Cup Final on December 6 at 19:30 GMT.
This comes in the wake of Inter Miami’s dominant 5-1 win over New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Final that had Messi play out the entire duration of the contest with wing forward Tadeo Allende bagging a hat-trick.
Messi provided the assist to Matteo Silvetti for Miami’s third goal in the 67th minute; Messi’s longtime Barcelona FC teammate Jordi Alba chipped in with a pair of assists for Miami.
Speaking after winning the club’s first ever Eastern Conference title, Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano praised Lionel Messi saying,
“Leo [Messi] has accustomed us to the extraordinary. He’s someone extraordinary, someone we’ll never see again.”

“Today, perhaps we’re surprised that he didn’t score, but he gave us peace of mind with the third goal, an assist that only he can see. He practically sealed the game.”

The win sets up an interesting matchup against Vancouver early next month after the Whitecaps beat San Diego FC 3-1 with former Bayern Munich player Thomas Muller playing 62 minutes for Vancouver.
