Veteran Ghanaian coach Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong has revealed the unsettling conditions that led to his resignation from Eleven Wonders just 20 days after taking charge of the newly promoted Ghana Premier League side.

Eleven Wonders returned to the top flight this season after an impressive campaign in the Access Bank Division One League, but their struggles have intensified in the GPL, and now, their head coach has walked away.

Speaking exclusively to Channel One Sports, Coach Sarpong stated that his decision to quit was driven by unresolved internal issues, with player welfare at the heart of the matter.

According to him, the situation became untenable when players reportedly went three days without food and still had to prepare for a league match.

“If you have a job and things are not right, the only thing to do is to step away and there were serious problems yet to be solved.

The major one was that the players went hungry for three days without training while preparing for a match.

He added that the lack of motivation and support from the club’s hierarchy made his role impossible.

The players are good.

They have quality.

But if you don’t support them, you won’t get results  and If you let them go hungry as if it’s punishment, it makes the coach’s work very difficult.

People outside will say the coach is bad, but they don’t know what is happening.

Coach Sarpong, who has managed multiple clubs in Ghana, noted that he has seen similar challenges in the past and had no intention of reliving them.

I’ve gone through these problems before. I won’t put myself through it again, so I had to quit.

His resignation comes at a difficult time for Eleven Wonders, who currently sit bottom of the league table and continue their search for stability both on and off the pitch.
