The Ghana Police Service, through its Homicide Unit, has commenced investigations into the death of Ransford Owusu, a 16-year-old junior footballer of Siano Soccer Academy in Accra.

According to a police statement signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the deceased’s mother, Ama Asantewaa, reported to the Amasaman Police that her son, who had fallen ill and died on February 28, 2025, had earlier confided in her that his coach, Ibrahim Anyass, had sexually abused him.

The case was subsequently taken over by the Homicide Unit at the CID Headquarters, where suspect Anyass Ibrahim was invited for questioning. He was interrogated, his statement taken, and was later granted bail while investigations continue.

A review of medical reports submitted by the deceased’s mother from both the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (Children’s Hospital) in Kumasi indicates that the teenager was treated for liver and kidney-related conditions before his death.

Police say efforts are underway to obtain the official medical report from both hospitals for confirmation, as earlier requests for the documents had been declined. A court order has now been secured to ensure the hospitals release the necessary reports to aid the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Police have also extended their investigations following a viral video involving the suspect and a minor, urging the public to assist with any credible information that could support the ongoing inquiry.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Homicide Unit at the CID Headquarters or the nearest police station.
