Burkina Faso forward Bertrand Traore has delivered a strong statement in the direction of Ghana referee Daniel Laryea after Burkina Faso’s loss to Algeria.

The Stallions lost 1-0 to Algeria courtesy a Riyad Mahrez converted penalty in the first half; the win qualified Algeria to the Round of 16 stage of the competition.

Daniel Laryea is the sole Ghanaian referee officiating at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco but his performance in the game didn’t impress the AFC Sunderland player Traore who stated according to beIN Sport that,

“It’s a shame…We lost 1-0 to a penalty. I think there was a penalty on me in the first action of the match. The referee didn’t even check VAR. And then, as if by magic, he stayed on the pitch for Algeria’s penalty and confirmed it.”

“It’s a shame for African football, for the AFCON. The referees are ruining the match. In the end, the referee pushes me… That’s it… It’s disappointing…We mustn’t spoil the competition.”
