Arsenal’s struggles against Aston Villa in recent years continued as the Gunners conceded a late goal en route to losing an early kick off tie against Unai Emery’s team..

The Gunners lost 2-1 to Villa with substitute Emiliano Buendia scoring the winner off a hefty scrap inside the penalty box to stagger Arsenal’s momentum towards winning a long sought after English Premier League title.

The score stood at 1-1 with Matty Cash and Leandro Trossard on the scoresheet until Buendia’s strike in the 94th minute. Speaking to the BBC after the loss, Mikel Arteta described the last minute loss as painful.

“Very painful, especially after all the effort in the match. It was an open game. To lose it in the manner we did is painful. Eighteen games unbeaten, you lose a game and that’s what it is, this is football” Arteta said.
