Nigeria’s Minister of Finance Dr. Doris Nkiruka has stated that the transfer of bonuses to the account of members of Nigeria’s National Men’s Football Team, the Super Eagles, is in flight and is sure to hit the account of the team’s members by Thursday, January 8 or Friday, January 9, 2026.

The Minister’s remarks comes in the wake of the Super Eagles’ threat to boycott training if they aren’t paid bonuses owed them by the close of Thursday, January 8.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to play against Algeria in the 2025 AFCON that is taking place in Morocco on Saturday, January 10 at 16:00 GMT. Nigeria are yet to lose a game four games into the tournament.

In a statement released on her X (formerly Twitter) page, Dr. Nkiruka promised that the issue will be sorted before Saturday.

“I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses for our national team at AFCON 2025.”
