Two time Australian Open champions Naomi Osaka delivered a solid performance in her opening game of the 2026 Australian Open to progress to the second round.

Osaka beat Antonia Ruzic 6-3,3-6, 6-4 to get her quest to win a third Australian Open title off to a fine start. The American tennis star is scheduled to take on Sorana Cirstea on Thursday, January 22.

Osaka delivered a stunning entrance by wearing a jellyfish inspired attire that was complete with a big white hat and an all–white umbrella and in her post-game presser, she talked through her win and fashion statement.

“It’s modelled after a jellyfish. I’m so grateful I get to be able to do the things that I love and it’s really beautiful. There’s a butterfly on the hat and the umbrella, which has to do with the Australian Open I won in 2021.”

“This is one of my favourite tournaments and just to start the year off, it makes me very happy. I think I served pretty well. She is an amazing player, I’ve never played her before” she said according to the BBC.
