Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has stated that reviews of the budget allocated to Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team-the Black Stars-have saved the country a lot of money.

In a high profile meeting with the Vice President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Sports Minister revealed that rationing the budget saved almost $700,000.

The Vice President’s visit to the Sports Ministry had Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, Deputy National Sports Authority Directors Veronica Commey and Gideon Hammond and Sports Ministry Chief Director Wilhelmina Asamoah in attendance.

In the lead up to the final round of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Kofi Adams announced significant cuts to the Black Stars budget and in his address to the Vice President, the Sports Minister highlighted the benefits Ghana got from the review. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“All these have gone a long way to build confidence and the players did not suffer, the technical team did not suffer. They continued, Your Excellency, to receive what is due them even in these savings” Kofi Adams said.
