President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomande Faye, says the West Africa nation, owes the Teranga Lions a debt of gratitude.
He said this in his address while welcoming members of Senegal’s National Men’s Football Team back home after triumphing at the 2025 AFCON.
Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 to lift this year’s AFCON title with Pape Gueye scoring the winning goal in extra time. This is Senegal’s second AFCON title triumph.
The victorious team met President Faye and other members of Senegal’s government in the wee hours of Tuesday, January 20 at the airport on their return.
Speaking at the meeting, President Faye stated that the Republic of Senegal owes the team a great debt of gratitude and added that,

“They did it heroically, they did it by playing beautiful football, they did it with great fair play, both on and off the field. By bringing by this second star, the Senegalese people owe them a debt of gratitude. The most widely shared feeling today is pride” President Faye said according to RTS Senegal.
