The King of Morocco, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has congratulated the North African nation’s men’s football team for excelling in the 2025 AFCON.
Morocco’s National Men’s Football Team, the Atlas Lions, finished in second place in the just ended competition after losing 1-0 to Senegal in the final.
In a very chaotic but fascinating final, Senegal midfielder Pape Gueye smashed in a brilliant strike to score the winning goal to clinch the Teranga Lions’ second AFCON title.
Senegal’s Sadio Mane emerged as the Player of the Tournament while Morocco’s Brahim Diaz won the top goal scorer award but missed a crucial penalty that would have won the game for Morocco.
In his statement, King Mohammed VI commended the team for its efforts for showing what Moroccan and African youth can achieve.

“Through this distinguished journey, you have demonstrated that perseverance, seriousness and team spirit are the path to achieving performance, just as you have presented to the world an example of what Moroccan and African youth can achieve when they have confidence in their talents and abilities.”

“You have also proven, through the determination and heroic and honorable performance you have shown, the importance of our strategic vision of investing in human capital and modernizing the Kingdom’s infrastructure.”

“We also see it as a message of hope and confidence from Morocco towards its continent, confirming that African talent is capable of excelling and innovating in all fields” sections of King Mohammed VI’s statement read.
