“I like players who give me problems”- Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo

Head Coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has expressed deep love for players who challenge coaches, ask tough questions, and show genuine frustration after defeats.

He shared these insights after delivering a lecture to students of the University of Ghana’s Department of Physical Education and Sports at the Rugby Stadium on Wednesday, February 19, during a special colloquium themed “Individual Player Development.”

Speaking at the session, Addo noted that embracing players with strong personalities has helped him learn valuable lessons throughout his coaching career and contributed positively to his development as a coach.

“ I always say that, and I tell it to the other coaches, if the player can see the problems, with me as coach, problems, I know that they will pick the opponent’s problems.”

“So I like these players. Everything has to be in a certain range, but I like players who are going to challenge me, who are going to question me, or who are angry when they lose, because I know these are the players we need to win the game.

“So, in my coaching career, actually I think I learned my lesson.” He said.

Otto Addo concluded by urging athletes to prioritise education alongside their sporting careers.

The colloquium is designed to help students recognise the great opportunities available to them in the sports industry.
