In a showdown between English keepers Pickford and Nick Pope of Newcastle, Pickford solidified his stranglehold on the Three Lions’ starting goalkeeper with Pope having a poor performance underpinned by howler in the lead up to Beto’s goal for Everton’s first.
With Newcastle searching for an equalizer, Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali smashed a goal bound volleyed attempt which took a deflection but Pickford readjusted his stance to flick the ball on to the crossbar and out for a corner kick.

Speaking after the win, Jarrad Branthwaite who scored Everton’s second goal, lauded Pickford for his brilliant display in goal to the club’s media stating,

“The best save I’ve ever seen, I don’t know how he’s pulled it off. We know how much of a top goalkeeper he is. When he does things like that it’s magic, he’s kept us in the game at the end of the day.”
One of the greatest saves of all time.
