The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of three students from Swedru School of Business in connection with the violent assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School.

The suspects are set to appear before the court, following the widespread circulation of a viral video that showed the incident.

According to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the suspects were handed over to the Swedru Divisional Police Command late on Monday, February 23.

The trio ;  Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18; and Bilal Mamud, 18  were formally arrested to assist with ongoing investigations into the incident, which occurred during the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru on February 19, 2026.

The victim sustained facial injuries and a broken tooth and was hospitalised. He has since spoken publicly about the assault, insisting he did nothing to provoke the attack.

The Central Regional Police Command condemned the act and urged the public, particularly students, to refrain from violence.

Dear IGP and the @GhPoliceService, this high school kid from Obrachire SHS in Agona, Central Region was brutally k!lled by rivals from other schools just because of sports. The hooliganism in the SHS is getting out of hand. This n0nsense must stop pic.twitter.com/yCLpHCABo2

The arrests follow firm directives from CID Director-General, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, who issued a 24-hour ultimatum to school authorities to produce those responsible after reviewing the viral video evidence.

In response to the disturbances, the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Central Region has suspended all inter-school sporting competitions until further notice.
