Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka, has officially committed to play international football for Austria.
The switch makes Chukwuemeka eligible to play in Austria’s international friendly game against Ghana’s Black Stars on March 27.
The 22 year old, who is on loan from Chelsea at Dortmund, switched from England to Austria having played for the Three Lions at the youth level.
Born in Vienna, Austria to Nigerian parents, Chukwuemeka and his family moved to England when he was young and went on to play for England at the Under 17 level to the Under 21 level.
Before committing to play for Austria, he was eligible to play for Nigeria and England; his switch puts him in line to play for Austria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Austria has been drawn in Group J at the upcoming World Cup alongside Jordan, Algeria and defending champions Argentina.

In 30 games in all competitions, Chukwuemeka has three goals and two assists. Playing against Austria is the first of four friendlies for Ghana ahead of the World Cup.
