Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum, has clarified that Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer was already on the standby list prior to his late inclusion in the Black Stars squad.
Königsdörffer earned a call-up following the withdrawal of Iñaki Williams and Brandon Thomas-Asante, who both sustained injuries during recent club assignments.
Speaking on the decision, Asante Twum explained that the technical team maintains a standby list to respond swiftly to such situations.

“What we do normally is that players are always on standby, so immediately when we decided not to involve them in this camping, we got in touch with the club of Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer,”
he said.
He added that the Association engaged the player’s club, Hamburger SV, before extending the invitation.

“We spoke to Hamburg, they assured us that they will speak to the player, so we ended up inviting him because he was on the standby list. Straight away, we sent him a ticket. Ransford has come in for Iñaki and Brandon Thomas-Asante,” he noted.
The Black Stars are set to face the Austria national football team and the Germany national football team in two international friendlies as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
