Former Black Stars defender Anthony Baffoe has called for greater unity within the national team, stressing that better cohesion on the pitch is key to unlocking the full potential of Antoine Semenyo.

The Manchester City forward has been in outstanding form since joining the Blues, currently sitting third on the English Premier League top scorers chart with 15 goals.

However, that club form has yet to translate to the national team, where he has managed just three goals in nearly five years.

Speaking to the media at the German Ambassador’s Residence in Accra during a watch party for the Ghana–Germany friendly on March 30, 2026, Baffoe emphasized that stronger teamwork from his Black Stars teammates would help bring out his best for Ghana.

“Semenyo is a top class player, but at the moment Black Stars are now Man City.

“So everything around him is totally different and don’t forget, we are playing without the likes of Kudus, Kamaldeen just came back from injury.

“Thomas Partey is not 100% in shape, which is also fully understandable. They need to be in top form.

“I think Jordan had a very good match. He was very, very active on the pitch. So if those guys are really also in shape, I think Semenyo also will be good. They’ll provide better balls for him.

Despite the improved showing, the defeat to Germany marked Ghana’s fourth straight loss, following setbacks against Japan and Korea in November 2025.

However, the performance against Germany offered a glimpse of the resilience and organisation the team has been striving for.

The Black Stars will return to action in May with friendlies against Mexico and Wales as they continue preparations for the 2026 World Cup, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
