Real Madrid interim head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has slammed the performance of referee Slavko Vincic in the wake of the club’s exit from the UEFA Champions League at the quarterfinal stage.
Real Madrid lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich in the second leg of their thrilling double header that had the German side progress to the semifinals on a 6-4 aggregate win.
Real Madrid were on pace to force the game to extra time and potentially qualify to the next round until the Spanish side conceded in the 89th minute and 93rd minute to lose the game and the tie.
Both goals came after Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was shown a red card for kicking the ball away hence delaying the game; Camavinga was introduced to the game in the 61st minute to replace Brahim Diaz.
In his post-game address according to the club’s media, Alvaro Arbeloa praised his team for the valiant effort but was very critical of the referee’s performance.

“I think referees often either don’t play football or don’t understand how to handle this type of situation but beyond not knowing, I think it’s even worse not knowing that a player who had already received a card not long ago—because Camavinga came on in the second half—is being penalized. I think it’s a double mistake” Arbeloa said.

After the game, Real Madrid players attacked the referee and led to Arda Guler also getting red carded.
