Players of Berekum Chelsea are undergoing medical evaluation and psychological support following the traumatic robbery attack that claimed the life of teammate Dominic Frimpong.

In a statement, the club confirmed that the team has safely returned to Berekum, with players receiving care to aid their recovery after the incident, which has left many shaken. The team arrived in Berekum on Monday, April 13, in a bus provided by fellow Ghana Premier League side Bibiani Gold Stars, in the wake of the incident.

“The team has since returned safely to Berekum and is currently undergoing medical evaluation and psychological support to aid recovery from the traumatic experience.”

The development highlights the severity of the ordeal, with the focus now shifting to the physical and mental well-being of the surviving players.

“This unfortunate incident has deeply affected the club, its players, officials, and the entire football fraternity.”

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), led by the Bono Regional Commander, has visited club officials at Berekum Chelsea, assuring the club that those behind the deadly robbery attack that claimed the life of Dominic Frimpong will be brought to justice.

Police say efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators, who they insist will face the full rigours of the law.

The visit comes as Berekum Chelsea continue to recover from the traumatic attack, which has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s football community.

Frimpong was killed when robbers attacked the bus carrying players and officials of Berekum Chelsea Football Club.

Police say the bus, with registration number AM 9334-20, was transporting about 30 players and officials from Samreboi to Berekum when it came under attack by six armed men. Three of the attackers were reportedly wielding pump-action guns and opened fire on the vehicle.

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at about 10:30 pm on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District of the Ashanti Region.

The death of Frimpong has triggered national concern over the safety of football teams on domestic travel, with renewed calls for tighter security measures.
