Liverpool F.C. have officially confirmed that club legend Andy Robertson will leave at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable nine-year spell at Anfield.

The 32-year-old Scotland captain will depart as a free agent in June 2026, choosing to move on in search of regular playing time after losing his starting role under new manager Arne Slot.

“Now Is the Time to Move On” – Robertson Speaks

In an emotional message to fans, Robertson made it clear the decision was about his future on the pitch.

“I think now’s the time for me to move on… The nine years I’ll look back on with a big smile on my face.”

Despite reduced minutes following the arrival of Milos Kerkez, the veteran left-back has vowed to give everything to Liverpool until his final day.

Why Robertson Is Leaving Liverpool

Robertson’s exit is largely down to changing dynamics within the squad. The £40m signing of Kerkez from Bournemouth has pushed the Scot down the pecking order, limiting his game time this season.

A potential January move to Tottenham Hotspur collapsed, leaving the defender to see out his contract before making a fresh start elsewhere.

Now, top European sides including Napoli, Juventus, and Atlético Madrid are reportedly monitoring his situation.

A Legendary Liverpool Career (2017–2026)

Signed from Hull City for just £8 million in 2017, Robertson evolved into one of the greatest left-backs in Liverpool history.

Key Stats & Achievements:

He also ranks as the second-highest assisting defender in Premier League history, underlining his attacking brilliance from left-back.

The End of a Golden Generation

Robertson’s departure follows that of long-time teammate Mohamed Salah, signaling the end of a golden era at Anfield.

Both players were central to Liverpool’s resurgence into European and domestic dominance, alongside former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has already moved on.

What Next for Liverpool?

With Robertson leaving and Kerkez now first choice, attention turns to how Liverpool will reinforce depth in that position. Manager Arne Slot is expected to explore options to provide competition and experience at left-back.

For Robertson, however, the focus is simple finish strong and leave as a true Anfield icon.
