Croatia midfielder Luka Modric is likely to miss the remaining four games of the 2025-2026 Italian Serie A season for AC Milan.
The veteran player is set to undergo surgery after suffering a left cheekbone fracture in Milan’s goalless draw with Juventus this weekend.
The injury forced Modric to exit the game in the 80th minute and is set to undergo surgery later today to fix the fracture.
However, the injury is widely expected to not affect Modric’s participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Croatia have been drawn in Group L in this year’s World Cup alongside England, Panama and Ghana; like Croatia, Ghana is sweating over the fitness level of some players including Rayo Vallecano Abdul Mumin who recently returned from a knee injury.

Modric played an instrumental role in Croatia winning silver and bronze at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup respectively.

In his first year with Milan, the 40 year old has two goals and three assists in 36 games in all competitions.
