France National Men’s Football Team captain Kylian Mbappe picked up an injury while playing for Real Madrid, raising concerns about his chances of competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup at an optimal level.
Mbappe asked to be replaced in the 81st minute in Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis and headed straight to the dressing room after Gonzalo Garcia replaced him.
Real Madrid held a 1-0 lead at the time of Mbappe’s exit thanks to Vinicius Junior, but Hector Bellerin’s goal in the 91st minute cancelled the lead.
Spanish journalist Jose Luis Sanchez of El Chiringuito TV reported that the French forward had suffered “an overload in the hamstring of his left leg”.

Speaking after the game to reporters, Real Madrid interim head coach Alvaro Arbeloa said, “He felt some discomfort. We’ll see how he evolves over the next few days.”

In 28 Spanish La Liga games, Mbappe has 28 goals and four assists; drawing with Real Betis puts Real Madrid eight points behind league leaders FC Barcelona, having played a game more than Barcelona.
